Stylish Weddings & Things Interviews: Al Ojeda Photography’s - Ida Ochoteco
Today is FabuFind Friday and I’d like to introduce you to Ida Ochoteco, part of a gifted and amazing couple whose passion for each other exudes in their talents in capturing your wedding story through photography.
Ida: We are a married team, Al is the lead photographer and I'm a fashion designer who jumped into the photography world through him. Al got hitched into photography as a young kid looking at "Life" magazines. Later on, he decided to study art and photography in a formal way. One of Al's professors invited him to work at his studio doing advertising, commercial, products, fashion, events and weddings. That was, years ago, still in the "film” era with all types of cameras from SLR to large formats. This gave him a huge training and experience. Then we moved to the US and 6 years ago we decided it was time to pursue the dream of working as professional photographers in US. I'm the PR, blogger, album designer and second shooter person in our business. We live happy by doing what we love: photography.
Stylish Weddings & Things: How long have you been in business?
Stylish Weddings & Things: What led you to this line of work?
Ida: Passion to all artistic expressions - from ballet, painting, movies, to photography and etc...
Stylish Weddings & Things: What would you say makes you unique among your colleagues/competitors?
Ida: Our uniqueness is in the ability to match any photography style. We strive to provide “Mr. and Mrs. to Be” with their dreamed wedding photos adding a little of our artistic touch. When you provide a service, it's not about you- it's about the customer's needs. In photography services, it shouldn't be any different. Give the couple what they want; either it is in a candid, traditional, editorial or a mix of photography styles. Another thing is, we shoot only one wedding per day, you booked us, you get US, and this makes our approach more personable... We also have a super-fast "proofs"(in the form of online gallery and DVD) turn around. We understand our couples are anxious to see their big day pics. Who wouldn't???
Stylish Weddings & Things: What is a typical day at work like for you?
Ida: Weekdays are of post processing weekend events, album designing, office matters, appointments, commercial photo shoots... Weekends are reserved to engagements and weddings...
Stylish Weddings & Things: Who are your favorite clients to work with?
Ida: No preference at all, we like "adapting" to people and situations...
Stylish Weddings & Things: Where do you draw your inspiration from?
Ida: There are the so called "masters" of photography like Ansel Adams, Sebastiao Salgado, W. Eugene Smith, and many others, who are a huge influence to us. We always go back to check them out to get inspired.
Stylish Weddings & Things: Would you like to offer any advice to aspiring photographers wanting to break into your line of work?
Ida: First study, in order to become a professional photographer, you have to learn how to shoot in different types of light situations. Also, learn how to follow composition rules; they are key to make a pic look attractive. Get experience in the field, the best way to do it is by working as a second shooter with a talented photographer. Last but not least, you got to love what you do…
Stylish Weddings & Things: Would you like to offer any tips for the couples reading about you today?
Ida: Sure, when looking for your wedding photographer, check out portfolios thoughtfully, making sure there are a variety of styles in them… Their website should be neat. I remember I overheard a very disappointed newlywed commenting about her wedding pics, she said she must have known by the photogs website what to expect.... Don't hesitate with asking questions... Read REVIEWS… On your wedding day, enjoy every minute of it, relax, don't let anyone ruin your big day, it's simply not worth it.
Stylish Weddings & Things: What does the future hold for Al Ojeda Photography?
Ida: Technology has been playing a huge impact in every wedding vendor, wedding photographers are no exception. We have to constantly read about new equipment options, new ways to showcase our work, new trends. There is also the need to "network" with other vendors. And, since today's Brides are computer savvy, social media plays a big role in getting our businesses out there for them to reach out to us. All of this is pretty time consuming!!! So, the future is keeping abreast of new trends and keep delivering beautiful quality photos!!!
