Bridal Party Roles and Responsibilities

This happens to be a topic that can vary from bride to bride, party to party. Bridal party roles and responsibilities are very important in the wedding planning process. I’ve compiled a short list of key duties typically assigned by role. You can add more tasks as required. A nice idea is to print these on index cards and distribute to your bridal group in a lovely thank you card when they accept the honor of assisting you with your wedding.

Maid/Matron of Honor

• Helps the bride with various errands and tasks
• Helps the bride get dressed and make sure she’s on time to the ceremony
• Pays for own dress, shoes, and accessories
• Arrange and host pre-wedding parties (bridal shower/bachelorette party) with bridesmaids
• Witnesses the marriage certificate being signed
• Holds the groom’s wedding ring
• Toasts to bride and groom at reception

Bridesmaids

• Helps the bride with errands and tasks
• Assist Maid/Matron of Honor with pre-wedding parties
• Pays for own dress, shoes, and accessories

Flower Girls

• Carries a basket of flowers down the aisle and drop flower petals as bride walks down the aisle
• Participates in bridal party photos
• Pays for dress, shoes, and accessories

Best Man

• Holds the bride’s wedding ring
• Helps groom with errands and tasks
• Hosts the Bachelor Party
• Distributes final payment to vendors
• Helps groom get dressed and on time
• Pays for their attire and accessories
• Gives the first toast to the bride and groom at the reception
• Witness the marriage certificate being signed

Ushers/Groomsmen

• Usher guests to their seats
• Pays for their attire and accessories
• Positions the aisle runners prior to the processional
• Gathers everyone for photos
• Security if needed

Ring Bearer

• Carries a pillow with a pair of wedding rings (Use fake ones! Unless this child is extremely careful… not recommended though)
• Pays for their attire and accessories
• Participates in bridal party photos
