I want to talk with you today about the differences between hiring a wedding planner and a wedding designer. I've found that many couples don't quite understand that there is a difference in what each profession means and how to hire accordingly.
A wedding planner's primary role is to assist couples with managing the details leading up to the wedding day. They will help with things like budget planning, vendor relations, and overseeing the flow of the couple's wedding day. The wedding planner is there to keep you organized, guide you, put out fires, and alleviate the stress of planning a wedding.
A wedding designer's primary role is putting together the ambiance for your wedding: the decor, branding, and/or theme conception for a couple's wedding. They will help with things like determining the aesthetics of the couple's vision for their wedding day.
There are wedding planners who are also wedding designers. These pro's provide a great service and can really help couples put a memorable wedding together because not only can they keep everything organized, they can really put a couple's vision into fruition.
So which one should you hire: Wedding Planner, Wedding Designer, or the Wedding Planner and Designer? Consider what your needs are before making this decision. It can be costly. Wedding planners with experience may have an "eye for design." They can demonstrate this with inspiration boards or photos from prior events and won't cost as much as hiring one with designer's credentials--if you're budget conscience. Make sure when interviewing for a wedding planner, you ask them if they're also designers and if their fees reflect this service.
