What is the one thing you must not forget to bring with you to your wedding?

The marriage license.
In the states of NJ and NY a marriage is not complete until the certificate is signed by you the couple, your two witnesses, and the officiant, which usually takes place either before or during the ceremony. The officiant can’t legally solemnize your marriage by pronouncing you husband & wife until this step is done. If they DO they can be faced with fines of up to $500 and in some cases imprisonment for up to six months in NJ and one year in NY.
Here’s another incentive to help your remember to bring your marriage license. If you do forget it and need to send someone to retrieve it, you’re now running a very expensive tab on your officiant’s time. What’s more is if your officiant has booked another wedding after yours, then you will more than likely have to settle for a commitment ceremony and later, meet your officiant with your witnesses to solemnize your marriage…that’s more fees you’ll have to shell out.
So you see, this is one document you cannot leave home without.
